Appointments

If you are feeling unwell but you are not sure of the best course of action to take, then our simple choose well guide will help you decide. There are a range of local NHS services to choose from and you don’t always need to see a GP or go to A&E.

Information:

The practice is very busy during peak times, unless your call is urgent at that time, please call a little later. Calls are being answered all the time.

Contact us with Accurx

You can contact a doctor, nurse or other healthcare professional online using a website called Accurx.

Urgent appointments

To request an urgent appointment for today or tomorrow (Monday to Friday) during opening times:

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use your answers to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or healthcare professional to help you.

Urgent/unplanned care

If you have a life threatening emergency, you should call an ambulance or go to the Accident and Emergency Department.

For less urgent problems we have a duty doctor on call 8am to 6:30pm, Monday to Friday, who can call you back and advise you or arrange to see you or our nurse practitioner as required. We encourage our patients only to go to Accident and Emergency or the Urgent Care Centre if absolutely necessary. Your practice can often help.

Doctors advice calls

When you are requesting an advice call from a doctor, please leave your name and phone number and a GP will phone you back.

This will either be your preferred/usual GP or another GP who is available to make the call. Sick notes are not classed as something which requires an on the day call back and will need to wait until your usual GP is available.

Extended access

As part of extended access, we have now increased our appointment availability to offer early morning appointments between 7am and 8am, Monday to Friday. We will also offer additional appointments between 6:30pm and 8pm, Monday to Friday.

MK Health Extra

General practice appointments available to suit you.

You can access general practice appointments on weekday evenings and weekends, at several locations in Milton Keynes.

Although we do not book these at our surgery if you visit 111.nhs.uk they will book the right appointment for you.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Please do not bring a list of problems, but speak to our receptionist if you really need a longer appointment.

Waiting

We are a busy practice and endeavour to give the best service to all our patients (over 11,500), if you have to wait, please be patient. It may be you who needs a little more than 10 minutes next time. To help us keep to time it would be easier if you see the same doctor for routine appointments.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If you cannot attend an appointment, please notify the practice as soon as possible to enable us to offer it to another patient.

To cancel your appointment:

If you need help when we are closed

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

If possible please try to call reception as soon as possible, preferably between 8am and 11am, if you require a home visit.

After this time, we do have our duty doctor who may be able to visit if the situation warrants it. Please be advised that the doctor will always call before visiting.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
